Five Years and Counting: The Power of Mentoring
David and Quentin
Quentin has been partnered with a mentor in the Rappahannock Big Brothers Big Sisters One-to One Mentoring Program for more than five years. When he first began the program Quentin was not doing well in school and he had a hard time completing his homework, resisting the time and discipline it took to get it done. He was also getting into scuffles with other children.
Through his relationship with David, his mentor, Quentin has grown into a responsible young man who definitely believes in the importance of education and gets good grades. Quentin used to be difficult to talk with and very withdrawn.
What a change! He is now a pleasure to talk with, he smiles when he speaks, his vocabulary has expanded, and his demeanor is respectful and open.
Because of Rappahannock United Way funded programs that offer mentoring, the educational achievements of youth are strengthened and a hopeful future becomes possible.
