YES! Anyone who has a household income of $80,000 or less is eligible.

Although RUW’s Free Tax Prep program can assist with most returns, we must follow IRS guidelines and cannot prepare certain types of returns.

Coached Filing

If you have basic computer skills and a simple tax return you can come along to the main tax site at Rappahannock United Way and file your own tax return for free.  We have computer stations set up for you to use for free, and our friendly, helpful tax team will help you if you have any questions.

Yes. This year, all tax sites will be first come, first serve, no appointment required.
• Income Forms W2s, 1099s (-INT, -DIV, -NEC, -R, -MISC, etc.), plus list of expenses if self-employed • Unemployment Forms 1099-G, if applicable • Childcare or Dependent Care Information such as providers name, address, and tax ID number and amount paid in 2022, if applicable • Photo ID for any and all person(s) filing • Original Social Security Card for each person filing and all dependents (original documents, no copies) • Other Tax Related Documents such as interest statements, loan documents, retirement statements, list of charitable contribution deductions, etc. • Household Health Insurance Coverage 1095-A if applicable (must report coverage on 2022 taxes if you or a family member were enrolled in the Health Insurance Marketplace, otherwise reporting health insurance coverage on 2022 tax returns is not required) • Direct Deposit Information to receive your tax refund via Direct Deposit (blank check or Bank name, Account Type - Checking or Savings, Routing Number, and Account Number)
Yes. You need the social security card of each person filing and all dependents on the return. You will also need a photo ID for each person filing.
Visit www.IRS.GOV/Refund to find the status on your federal refund. Visit www.Tax.Virginia.Gov to find the status of your Virginia State refund. Rappahannock United Way is not able to track the status of your refund.
Yes, you and your spouse need to be present to verify identity and sign the completed return.
RUW will be able to help clients who are self-employed by companies like Uber and Lyft. To ensure your preparation runs smoothly, please make sure you bring all of your income documents and deductions.

Self Employed Tax Guides:

If you require assistance filing your taxes online, a certified Rappahannock United Way Tax Team Preparer can assist you virtually via Drop-Off Appointments. For the safety of our clients, volunteers, and staff these appointments are 100% contactless.

You will need to have all of your documentation ready at the time of the Drop-Off Appointment. A Tax Preparer will scan your documents at Drop-Off and return them to you in your car.
