Write a Check
If you'd like to write a check, please make all checks payable to Rappahannock United Way and mail to Rappahannock United Way, 3310 Shannon Park Drive, Fredericksburg, VA 22408.
Donate Stock
If you would like to make a gift of stock to Rappahannock United Way, we would be happy to provide stock transfer instructions to you. It is a simple, straightforward process. You can call or write to your broker and ask your broker to initiate a "broker to broker" transfer. You would instruct your broker to donate the stock directly to Rappahannock United Way.
The United Way would provide you with the name of their brokerage firm, the brokerage firm's DTC number, the account name and number, and the telephone number and name of their broker contact at the firm.
Your broker can then transfer the securities directly to the United Way's account. It is important that the securities be transferred to United Way's account prior to being sold in order to avoid capital gains taxation.

Planned Giving - Legacy Society
Consider leaving a legacy and making a difference not only today but tomorrow, through the Rappahannock United Way Legacy Society.
The Rappahannock United Way Legacy Society was established to honor donors who make gifts in special ways. Society members are recognized for their support of Rappahannock United Way through planned giving. Making a gift to the Rappahannock United Way Legacy Society is a way of planning for Rappahannock United Way’s future, along with your own.
Rappahannock United Way’s Resource Development team is staffed and trained to present donors with options that benefit both the donor and Rappahannock United Way. We are available to assist you in achieving your charitable giving objectives. We are pleased to provide additional information to you and your financial advisors. Please view our brochure or contact Janel Donohue.
IRA Charitable Rollover
If you’re age 70 ½ or older, you may be able to take advantage of an important incentive for charitable giving. Even if you are too young to qualify for this great opportunity, please share the news with someone who does:
Congress has re-authorized the provision that allows donors to make gifts from their IRA accounts to one or more charities, without first incurring income tax on the withdrawal. This means that you can direct that amount to Rappahannock United Way with no federal income tax liability. The IRA Rollover may provide you with an excellent opportunity to make a gift during your lifetime from an asset that would be subject to multiple levels of taxation if it remained in your taxable estate.
Now, there are some details and restrictions: You must be 70 ½ or older when you make your gift, and the gift must be made from an IRA – no other retirement plans qualify, such as 401k, 403b, or SEP accounts. Your gift must come to us outright; it cannot be used to establish a life-income arrangement or support a donor-advised fund or certain types of supporting organizations. Although the distribution will be free from income tax, it will not generate an income tax charitable deduction. There are other details through which we will be happy to guide you.
The IRA Rollover is also available provided you make your gift by December 31 of the tax year. The administrator of your IRA plan will make the actual distribution to us.
IRA administrators do not always include the donor’s name on distribution checks. If you are planning to make a distribution to us from your IRA, please let us know in advance so that we will be able to identify your gift. Let us know if you want your gift used for a particular purpose as well.
