UMW Student Plans to Give Back to Community
Destiny loves her family with all her heart, but faced many challenges growing up. Countless moves and complicated issues meant attending three different middle schools and three different high schools. It wasn’t always easy.
She received help from a United Way Funded Program that kept her motivated and assisted with college visits, filling out her FAFSA and applying for scholarships.
“That was a merging step between high school and college for me,” said Destiny. “Some people don’t know what to do after high school. They helped each of us pick our school.”
Today she’s a freshman psychology major at the University of Mary Washington. She wants to become a forensic psychologist or a counseling psychologist and get a job here in our community to help others after she graduates.
“I love working with people and trying to figure things out,” said Destiny, who graduated from Colonial Forge High School. “I want to help other kids who are in my situation.”
