2024 Days of Action
Every year, tens of thousands of people in hundreds of communities around the world come together for United Way's Days of Action. It's a collective of global volunteering activities, where people can take a small step to make a big difference.
Three times a year, Rappahannock United Way hosts Days of Action events. For some, it’s stuffing backpacks full of books to encourage reading and improve early literacy. For others, it’s building and installing Free Little Libraries around the community to put books in the hands of young minds to foster a love of learning. For some, its creating Welcome Home kits for families moving in to permanent, safe and affordable housing.
For Rappahannock United Way, Days of Action mirror the work that we do all year long, building stronger, more equitable communities where everyone can thrive.

back to school sort-a-thon
a big thank you to all the volunteers who collected schools supplies and came out to help sort them and stuff them in to bags for local students. 236 Back to School bags were assembled and 4 Little Free Libraries were painted.
2023 DAY OF ACTION - CHECK OUT THE IMPACT WE MADE!
Last year the 2023 Day of Action mobilized corporate volunteers who worked on service projects that supported our mission
in our three focus areas of Education, Financial Stability, and Healthy Living.
Corporate volunteers participated in various projects that made a great impact in our community.
Projects Completed:
- Welcome Home Kit Assembly Project - 120 kits were assembled and distributed to member agencies serving low- to moderate-income households as they move into permanent, safe, and sustainable housing.
- Literacy Kit Assembly Project - 200 kits were assembled and distributed to community partners to provide early learning resources to local children in need, ensuring they are ready for kindergarten and beyond.
- Little Free Library Build Project - RUW in partnership with Little Free Library works to build a community, inspire readers, and expand book access for all through a global network of volunteer-led Little Free Library book exchange boxes.
- Toilet Paper Distribution Project - 960 toilet rolls, generously donated by our friends at Publix, were collected, counted, and distributed through our partner agencies. A vital household item that can be very expensive for local ALICE households living on a fixed budget.
- Pride Candy Project - 200+ candy items were branded with rainbow stickers. These items will be distributed by our staff at local Pride events throughout the month of June.
