Rappahannock United Way to Bring its Services to an End After 85 Years of Community Service
Fredericksburg, VA – 04/30/2025 — After 85 years of dedicated service to the Greater Fredericksburg community, Rappahannock United Way (RUW) will officially end its programs at the end of June 2025.
This difficult decision was made following a comprehensive review of operations and the evolving needs of the community.
Since its founding in 1939, Rappahannock United Way has been a pillar of support for thousands of individuals and families across the region. Through partnerships with local nonprofits, businesses, and volunteers, RUW has provided critical resources in the areas of education, financial stability, and health.
“This is not a decision we made lightly,” said Janel S Donohue, President & CEO of Rappahannock United Way. “For more than eight decades, RUW has been honored to serve this community. We are proud of the impact we’ve made and grateful to all who have supported us along the way.”
RUW’s leadership team and Board of Directors are working closely with donors and partner organizations to ensure a smooth transition and continued support for those who rely on community services. All remaining funds and resources will be responsibly allocated in alignment with RUW’s mission and values.
“We want to express our heartfelt thanks to our donors, volunteers, and community partners,” added Donohue. “Your unwavering commitment has made our work possible, and we are confident that the spirit of collaboration and care we’ve cultivated will carry on.”
More information about the transition and Rappahannock United Way’s legacy will be shared in the coming weeks. Community members are encouraged to reach out to Janel Donohue directly with questions and concerns. Please send all inquiries to [email protected] or visit www.rappahannockunitedway.org for updates.
