Workplace volunteering - a planned, managed effort that seeks to motivate and enable employees to effectively volunteer under the sponsorship and leadership of the employer - has become a critical element of the strategic plans of many businesses.
Building Blocks for Board Members - Board Training Workshop

As a Board Member of any nonprofit organization you will develop your leadership skills while giving back to the community!
In this workshop you will learn Nonprofit Board Basics, including:
- What is a nonprofit board
- Expectations of being a board member
- Personal and professional benefits to board service
- How to find the right nonprofit for you
- Legal issues and terms defined
- Risk management
- Fundraising expectations
- Overview of the nonprofit sector
- Nonprofit culture
Rappahannock United Way will present opportunities with various local nonprofits that are currently looking for board members, providing you the opportunity to join a nonprofit with a cause you support.

Days of Caring
As part of a year round volunteer engagement plan RUW coordinates special one day volunteer mobilization events, targeting volunteers from the local business community. Volunteers are matched with non-profit organizations, social services and schools to complete vital projects in the community.
A committee of local business, nonprofit, school and governmental representatives meets annually to plan each Day of Caring.
How Can I Get Involved in Day of Caring?
- Register as a Business Volunteer Team
- Become a Sponsor – get your Businesses name on the t-shirts
- Donate project materials for the agencies, or incentives/refreshments for the volunteers
- Join the planning committee
