Thank You, Volunteers!
Seventy v olunteers gave 1,280 hours during the 2012 tax season. Whether serving as greeters, financial counselors, or tax preparers, all made an impact on the success of the 2012 Tax Services program!
This year there were 1 ,066 tax returns filed--over 100 more returns than in 2011. Because this service was free, individuals were able to save collectively $213,200 on tax preparation fees. Tax Volunteers helped community membersre receive total refunds of $1,584,230, which they can then put toward education, paying off debt, starting a savings account, or paying bills. Tax Volunteers impact lives by supporting the financial stability of our community members!
Rappahannock United Way will continue to hold Financial Freedom events throughout the year and can still use your help! Email Mary Ellen Hutcherson to learn more.
Volunteer as a Tax Preparer in 2013!
By volunteering one hour of your time, you could put over $5,000 into the pockets of a hardworking, low to moderate-income family. If you are interested in volunteering please contact mehutcherson@rappahannockunitedway.org or (540) 373-0041 ext. 314.
No prior experience required to volunteer.
Tax law training is provided free of charge. All volunteers must pass an "open book" test that certifies they are able to help prepare taxes. Classroom training is typically offered in December and January. Online training, Link and Learn, is also available through the IRS website. Volunteers only need to study and pass the Basic section.
Free Tax Services is through the Rappahannock Region Financial Stability Coalition. Learn more.
