The Earned Income Tax Credit is a refundable tax credit available to individuals and families earning less than a certain income per year. The Earned Income Tax Credit reduces or eliminates the amount of income taxes an individual owes. If the credit is greater than the income taxes owed, an individual can get the rest of the EITC back as a refund. Depending on family size and income, families earning $49,000 or less could get an EITC refund of up to $5,666.
