About FREE Tax Services
As part of its commitment to addressing key community issues, Rappahannock United Way is developing strategies to positively impact the financial stability of our citizens.
The goal is: To help more households emerge from poverty and achieve greater financial stability.
One of the first initiatives toward this goal is Rappahannock United Way's FREE Tax Services Program - VITA
VITA provides FREE income tax preparation assistance to individuals and families with a household income of less than $51,000 a year. In addition to providing free tax preparation, VITA works to ensure everyone in the community receives all of the tax credits and deductions for which they are eligible.
Anyone who files a basic tax return and has a household income of less than $51,000, can have taxes prepared at one of the VITA sites.
During the last tax season, Rappahannock United Way and the Financial Stability Coalition prepared more than 1,000 tax returns, bringing approximately $1.58 million in tax refunds to our local community members.
