Initiatives

famwize

FamilyWize is a national program that seeks to reduce the costs of prescription medicines for those in need. Rappahannock United Way distributes free discount prescription cards to connect as many low income individuals as possible with the service FamilyWize provides.In March 2012, FamilyWize honored RUW with its Community Partnership Award. Read more.

As of June 2012, you can text to FamilyWize to save money on prescriptions.

Investments

Specialty Clinics – providing healthcare services beyond primary care needs – including chronic care, dental, mental health and cardiology to more than 1,100 medically indigent patents – improving their general health status and helping them obtain optimal functioning in relation to their long term physical and mental health.

Adult Activities – providing day support and recreational services to more than 150 adults with intellectual disabilities, providing engaging and meaningful opportunities for health, success, and valued participation in the community.

Equipment Connection – providing durable medical equipment free of charge to more than 900 people with disabilities, to assist and allow independence, employment retention and participation in the community.

Counseling Services – providing affordable counseling and therapy to thousands of individuals and family members, serving as a foundation for improved health status and quality of life.

Mental Health Support Services – providing information and referral services, and support groups for more than 2,000 individuals experiencing mental health issues, resulting in improved mental health and wellness.

Parenting Support Groups and Training – preventing child abuse and neglect by providing more than 500 parents with parenting education and support.

Temporary Foster Care and Adoption Services – ensuring more than 90 high-risk children are cared for in safe and nurturing families to meet each child’s unique physical, emotional, and social developmental needs.

Court Advocacy Services - providing volunteer court advocates for 200 children who are the victims of abuse, neglect and abandonment, ensuring they remain or are placed in safety.

Domestic Violence Support Services – providing a safe place to help more than 1,200 women have the knowledge and confidence to make positive decisions which lead to healthy relationships.

Sexual Assault Support Services – providing education and support to more thousands of victims of sexually violent crimes and sexual abuse, to lessen the impact the trauma will have long term on their lives.

Public Safety Education – providing early education of 2,800 children regarding the effective use and benefits of 9-1-1.
