Tax law training is provided free of charge. All volunteers must pass an "open book" test that certifies they are able to help prepare taxes. Classroom training is typically offered in December and January. Online training, Link and Learn, is also available through the IRS website. Volunteers only need to study and pass the Basic section.

About Tax Services

The Rappahannock Region Financial Stability Coalition is a United Way led coalition that educates low income workers about their eligibility for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and provides low-income families with free tax return preparation* and asset building information.

During the 2011 tax season, 902 total tax returns were filed, with total refunds for these individuals and families amounting to $1,202,023! Because these taxpayers chose the Coalition's free tax preparation, they collectively saved $170,000 on preparation fees. This money can instead go toward paying bills, reducing debt, paying for an education, building savings, or even buying a car to have a lasting impact on the lives of community members.

For more information about our Financial Stability Program and how you can get assistance, please call (540) 373-0041 or email skadis@rappahannockunitedway.org
